How scores work

Every nominee gets two scores, side by side.

Oops Score

Goat and the Goat Farm judges each give the nominee a score from 1 to 100. The score is about two things: how big the backfire was, and how long it lasts. The Oops Score is the average of the judges' scores. It appears once at least two judges have scored a nominee.

Herd Score

The Herd Score comes from readers. On every nominee you can answer one question: is it Midgley-worthy? The Herd Score is the share of readers who said yes. It appears once ten people have voted. You can change your vote any time.

Why two scores

The judges and the readers do not always agree. That is part of the fun. A nominee can be a Certified Backfire with a low Herd Score, or the other way around.
